This method addresses the need of undergraduate students to learn the basic mathematical methods and their applications to business and economics. It is designed to be accessible to readers with only a background in calculus. It integrates basic mathematical ideas into the formulation of economic models and employs mathematical techniques to analyze the underlying economic concepts. Economic examples are provided to illustrate the theorems presented. An extensive use of graphs helps to give intuition to the abstract ideas.

ROLANDO A. DANAO is Professor Emeritus at the School of Economics, UP Diliman. He has published in the fields of optimization theory, linear algebra and operations research. His Introductory Mathematical Economics (UP Press, 2002) won the 2002 Chancellor’s Best Book Award and Introduction to Statistics and Econometrics (UP Press, 2003) won the 2004 Outstanding Book from the National Academy of Science and Technology. He holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of California Berkeley.
